Hastings Emergency Site: Hastings Community Centre

Located on Hastings Community Park (not to be confused with the newly restored Hastings Park across the street where the Pacific National Exhibition is located), this centre had its earliest beginnings in 1934 when the Park Board approved plans for a recreation facility after community groups raised construction funds. It was later in 1956 that the existing centre was opened following an extensive community fundraising campaign and the approval of a local improvement by-law by area residents. The Hastings Community Centre serves all ages and cultures in the Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood offering a myriad of recreational programs and events including a fitness centre, racquetball courts, gymnasium, family enrichment centre and several multi-purpose rooms.

Adjacent to the community centre is a popular children's water spray park. The centre's volunteer-based association has been very instrumental in the restoration of Hastings Park to greenspace and is the main contact for the Hastings Park Conservancy.
