Strathcona Emergency Site: Strathcona Community Centre

Located in the midst of a unique and friendly ethnic community, this recreation centre attempts to fulfill many different needs. Strathcona Community Centre provides a variety of diverse programs and services for everyone from preschoolers to seniors. These include baby clinics, arts and crafts, sports, cooking, adult education, fitness, social events, multi-cultural programs and much more. The centre is a place which can be drawn upon by all groups and individuals for information, ideas and resources, where the community can meet, share thoughts, explore new and different avenues of recreation, socialize and become involved. Its doors are open to all.

Constructed in 1972 through the joint efforts of the Vancouver Park Board and local residents, the centre building is owned by the Vancouver School Board and is linked to the adjoining Lord Strathcona Elementary School. The volunteer Board of Directors is an elected group made up of residents, community agencies, representatives, and members at large. Together with the community centre staff they are responsible for making decisions about the delivery of recreation, education and social programs to the neighbourhood, as well as community development initiatives.
